Action/Nature Photography & Fine Art
A few months ago I had purchased a leather bound sketchbook. The paper was gritty with torn edges. It seemed like a good candidate for the 2022 Inktober. A few days before the challenge, I decided to draw a cover page that read “Inktober 2022” in India Ink. Everything went horribly. The paper didn’t soak well and it tore up with the lightest eraser scrub. I had already started this sketchbook and was determined to finish it.
On day one of the challenge I decided to switch from ink to watercolor. Since the paper doesn’t like erasers, I had to commit to not sketching out my daily pieces. As I mentioned before, the paper didn’t soak up water very well. This made me do everything in wet on dry method. I was unable to get and smooth gradients in many cases. In some cases it all went well and in others it was a complete catastrophe in my eyes. After looking back at some of the pieces that I didn’t like, they weren’t horrible. However, I would never want to sell any. They’ll be filed under a lesson learned. In the end, it is another challenge completed.
Some of my favorites are days 10, 11, and 12 as I covered some of my favorite characters from the Disney Empire. Days 20, 25, 28, 30 covered some of my favorite hobbies. But the ones that I truly had the most fun painting were days 1, 2, 8, 15, 27, and 29. I might even consider scanning some and adding them to the Art & Print Shop one day. I believe that they are definitely worth sharing with the world. If you want to read more detailed stories behind each of the daily posts you can follow me on my Instagram Account where I share some of my sketches and smaller pieces.
